The prices were assigned to public authorities that successfully promote entrepreneurship as well as small and medium sized businesses.
The Auvergne region needed a social and economic lift. ARDTA, the Regional Development Agency launched a program to provide assistance to people outside the region who want to go there and start or buy a business in the area. Some expenses for housing and living expenses will be paid.
They will be provided with a mentor who will guide you in the local business environment and there may also be financial assistance in other forms.
The program has so far yielded very positive results: 211 companies have been established in the area and employ more than 600 people, mainly within trade, tourism and services, but also within medicine.
This year over 330 projects in 28 European countries participated in the European Enterprise Awards, and 53 projects were nominated for the European finals. Among the finalists "Résidence d'entrepreneurs" appeared to be an excellent example of creating employment and promoting entrepreneurship.
The European Enterprise Awards, launched by the European Commission's GD Enterprise in 2006, rewards the public authorities' efforts to support small and medium businesses and promote entrepreneurship, especially at regional and local levels.
After the national rounds, a European jury decide the final list, and then the winner receive this prize at a ceremony which was held in Madrid this year.
