The crisis has affected the world, however, new jobs are constantly created in Stockholm city. According to a study presented by Stockholm Business Region, growth appears on the wage bill, and sales in the private sector as well.
Due to this, Stockholm is a popular place to be.
The attractiveness is also evident in demographics statistics. There has been a great influx from abroad and more people from abroad are now visiting Stockholm. During the third quarter of 2009, Stockholm city passed 2 million inhabitants and is now growing at an average of 36.000 people per year.
- Stockholm keeps its position. The industry has proved to be well prepared for the economic situation. It enhances our attractiveness today and enables us to meet the cyclical upswing from an even stronger position, said Olle Zetterberg, CEO of Stockholm Business Region.
Employment continues to grow in Stockholm, but the pace slowed down slightly. During the third quarter of 2009, the number of employed people increased with 4 200 people in the county and 7 000 people in the city.
But an increasing population requires even more jobs. Due to the influx increase, however, the open unemployment rate from last quarter increased to 3.9 percent in the county and 4.2 percent in the city. In the rest of the country the corresponding figure was 5.5 percent.
During the third quarter of 2009, the wage bill increased by 1.5 percent in Stockholm County and 0.8 percent in Stockholm city compared with the previous quarter, according to the report.
