Yet, the amount is small compared to our northern neighbors, such as the Danes, who export three times as much to this enormous market.
Previously, it was relatively easy to export to the U.S. but now the rules are stricter. The FDA, which is the U.S. Food Administration, is now demanding companies exporting food to the United States to report if the food may contribute to a health risk.
This applies to goods that may contain substances that can cause allergies and contain chemicals which will create additional work for exporting companies.
Stricter rules are there to increase the safety of goods imported into the country. Perhaps the most important part to know is that all businesses now, without exception, must be registered in order to be permitted to deliver food to the United States. This applies to all businesses regardless of whether they pack, manufacture or store food.
An obligation is now also to report if there is a probability that the food can affect human health in a negative way. This applies to all food, including animal feed, with the exception of food supplements.
The new rules force companies worldwide to draw attention to the reporting obligation.
