The city with more than 44.000 inhabitants offers a modern infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce. Here exist also 1.000 firms and many of them are foreign-owned.
One reason for this is that Ventspils is a "tax free zone” which means that a generous discount on corporate and real estate taxes are offered, which are as much as 66 percent and 80 percent. This generous tax credit means that the corporate tax rate is 5 percent and property tax only 0.2 percent.
In addition to that the service sector within transport and logistics is well developed to transport goods back and forth from Russia and Asia, the city is heavily investing in IT and communications.
In 2005, Ventspils High Technology Park was established which also offers a business incubator to develop and strengthen IT business sectors, design, software development, communications, and industrial automation. There are a number of famous established companies here such as SIEMENS.
Ventspils has good relations with Russia, Asia, the Nordic countries and parts of Europe. In addition to modern and expanded ferry services back and forth from the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Russia, there are also a railway and road network that reaches across Eastern Europe, including connections with Russia and Asia - China.
But, in addition to a good business environment for small and medium enterprises, Ventspils offers a convivial life for the family and particularly during the summer months when the time is best around the Baltic Sea.
