At the mingle-session afterwards, a man came up to me and told me a story about when he and his company had been fooled in Singapore. This was not fun. He told me that he had a local lawyer who wrote all the contracts but it turned out that it was an unreliable lawyer.
This is something to watch out for when starting a global business. To have a Swedish lawyer who goes through the papers and make sure it is the same paper submitted to the authorities may be worth the money invested. To be fooled is one of the worst things that can happen.
You are in a different country and to sue someone and win can be extremely time-consuming. But the most positive thing about this man is that he still attended our event and has not given up on establishing on other markets.
A setback like this should not be a determining factor to establish business abroad. The markets abroad offer a whole lot for enterprising Swedes that want to do business. The Swedish market is extremely small and, moreover, it is rewarding to reach out to the world to try your business idea.
