Sweden – These regions are still successful

The crisis goes up and down across the country and some regions have managed the situation better than others. There is still uncertainty around the country but we can see improvements.

There are explanations showing why individual counties
can handle the crisis better than others.

Eastern Gothia (Östergötland) is one of the counties that have
managed the situation well. The explanation here is that the economy is diversified and also not so focused on the automotive industry.

Not far away, however, the situation is worse.
In Jönkoping (Jönköping) the crisis has really affected the area and the reason for this is the concentration of sub-contractors. It's been a lot of notice and unemployment.

In Scania (Skåne), however, the situation is better. Scania has a good geographical location in relation to the Oresund Bridge, where it is relatively easy with commuting and trade. It is easy to get to Denmark, and therefore are also more job opportunities.

Gotland is also doing well. Gotland has a small industrial sector
and therefore influenced to a small extent by the crisis. Dominant industries such as agriculture and tourism have a relatively good growth thanks to the weak Swedish krona. Figures from the Employment Service in August show that Gotland has the country's lowest unemployment rate, 2.8 percent.

In Gothenburg (Göteborg), the situation is both good and bad.
The automotive industry has been hit hard in western Sweden. Still, there is uncertainty about the future in some of the largest companies and their subcontractors.

Optimism is increasing, production increases from a very low level. Trade, tourism and food are sectors in good standard.
