Berlin - the city that are fighting for a better and greener future offers business opportunities for Swedish and other foreign companies within environmental technology. They are striving for the best resources within energy, and also to strengthen the country's competitiveness on the labor market.
These are the preliminary results of the study "The Service Industry in Environmental Technology", conducted by Roland Berger and on behalf of the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
Around the world, environmental technology is a dynamic growth market for the future. Germany has taken the lead in this area and the plan is that it will become one of Germany's most important domestic industries. In the service sector, the Germans are internationally competitive and continue to show signs that point to future growth.
The total market volume of services within environmental technology ended at 123 billion Euro in 2008. Experts predict an annual increase of 7.7 percent which will be a total of 300 billion Euro in 2020.
Over 860 000 people are currently employed in this sector, which covers 74 percent of the total workforce in the environmental industry. This figure is expected to increase to 1.68 million people in 2020, which means that the trend is creating jobs through services. Most positions are expected in industrial services, such as research and development, logistics, sales, supply of materials or technical planning and supervision.
To exploit the full potential of this growing industry, the study recommends to focus on internationalization, increased networking, security personnel, training, and to create new business areas.
