Infrastructure in Russia

Between the years 1995 and 2005 the road network increased by 5000 km, from 750 000 to 755 000 in Russia, while the number of railway kilometers declined slightly.

In comparison, in the developing country China they have
built 480 000 kilometer car roads in five years, 19 000 kilometer railways, 16 new airports and one of the world's most modern high-speed train.

Today, one kilometer four-lane highway costs 2.9 million dollars in China, 3.6 million dollars in Brazil and 12.9 million dollars in Russia. In some extreme cases, as the fourth highway around Moscow, the figure is at least 400 million dollars per kilometer.

In two years (2006-2008) 230 billion dollars were spent on
roads, about the same amount as the Russian central bank spent on the defense of the ruble last year, without any significant result.

The explanation for Russia’s huge costs are considered
by analysts to be inefficiencies associated with corruption.
