Germany - Europe's largest logistics sector.

Over 10.000 billion SEK is the turnover in logistics services within the EU if the countries Norway and Switzerland are included every year.

The three largest logistics markets in Europe are ranked in order: Germany, Britain and France. These countries are followed by Italy and Spain at the same level, and after that are the Netherlands and Belgium which traditionally have attracted many central warehouses and logistic hubs which accommodate great ports such as Rotterdam and the Antwerp.

Sweden is in the eighth place before Poland and the other Nordic countries, although the distance to Finland and Norway is small. Despite its great navigation sector, Denmark is the smallest Nordic country in terms of logistics market turnover.

In Germany, the logistics sector is larger than both the chemical and food industry in turnover and continues to grow. The logistics sector is close to the traditionally largest sector which is the automotive industry.

The logistics industry can be divided into different segments where the segments directly related to transport has been heavily affected by the recession. But there are segments that still experience growth and that is Contract logistics. Industry - and trade companies continue the trend to contracting out logistics to specialized and pure logistics companies. In doing so, there will be a continued positive development and expansion within this segment regardless of market.
