The government reduces corporate tax

The alliance party leaders informed today that the government reduces corporate tax from 28 percent to 26.3 percent. Employee benefits will be dropped by one percent in 2009. According to Centre Party Leader Maud Olofsson, the government estimates 10 000 new jobs by 2010 as a result of these measures.

SEK 13 BILLION of the total SEK 16 billion corporate tax reduction in 2009, will be financed by cutting corporate tax planning. Partnership tax planning by underpriced transfers and write-downs of stock in the construction sector will be stopped.

PRIME MINISTER FREDRIK REINFELDT informed that these changes will also ensure the corporate tax as an important source of income. According to Reinfeldt, various ways of tax planning has made it possible for large corporations to choose whether they want to pay taxes or not.

ACCORDING TO INGEMAR HANSSON, undersecretary at the Treasury Department, the proposition benefits mainly small companies. Large companies with extensive tax planning cannot do this anymore and will not benefit from a 2 percent reduction in corporate tax.

- CORPORATE TAX IS an important tax that companies look into when expanding abroad, said the liberal party leader and Minister of Education, Jan Björklund at a press conference at Tobii Technology in Danderyd.

THE SWEDISH CORPORATE tax has been 28 percent ever since 1995. At the time, it was low compared to the rest of Europe. Since then, other countries have reduced its corporate tax and Western Europe average is 26 percent, according to Jan Björklund. The corporate tax reduction will cost SEK 7 billion in 2009.
